14TH ANNUAL ST PATRICK’S DAY PARADE SET FOR SATURDAY, MARCH 13, 2010

Bagpipes, drum corps, Irish step dancers, costumed marchers, and festive pageantry, bring the luck of the Irish to parade watchers during Sacramento's annual St Patrick's Day Parade Over a decade in existence, the parade has become a celebrated tradition filling the streets of Old Sacramento with over 500 costumed marchers, military regiments, marching bands, uniformed police and fire professionals, cultural organizations and much more

Held at Old Sacramento, a 28-acre historic landmark and state historic park, the one hour parade begins promptly at 1pm to the cheer of crowds that line the streets of the parade route which steps off from a new location (2nd & L Streets) promptly at 1pm and proceeds throughout the historic district

There's plenty to see and do before and after the parade, as the streets of Old Sacramento come alive in a family-friendly event appropriate for all ages (no alcoholic beverages will be served) Live Irish-themed music, Celtic dancers in elaborate costumes, and the wildly popular Ophir Prison Marching and Kazoo Band, will all perform During the evening of revelry many restaurants feature Irish menus or specialties, and adults who prefer a Guinness beer with their meal will be able to sit down and dine at popular restaurants throughout Old Sac

The pride of sponsors--Old Sacramento Business Association, City of Sacramento - Old Sacramento Division, The Shamrock Club and Mix 96--this annual event held every year on March 17, is also a source of pride and enjoyment for residents who hospitably welcome tourists who attend Several thousand people line the streets of Old Sacramento, closed to vehicle traffic

Groups and organizations interested in marching should contact Nancy Mallory, parade organizer, at (916) 646-1545 or info@malloryprcom To request information about parade sponsorships or parade entries, contact Mallory & Associates at 916-646-1545 or info@malloryprcom

With great excitement we announce the return of Sacramento's biggest St Patrick's Day celebration! Once again, we will close off L Street between 16th & 15th Streets for a celebration like no other

Last year, nearly 7,000 people showed up for an all-day event that remained festive and safe; we had no incidents, thanks to great security and a great crowd This year, we're projecting 8,000 revelers, and all are encouraged to get involved We are working with The Sacramento Press to get the community involved We will be sure to keep everyone up-to-date as things develops right here So join the conversation, tell us what you think-- and what you want to see more or less of for 2010

The Second Stage will feature traditional Irish dancers and Irish session music The California Fire Department Pipes and Drums will blow your mind and have you screaming between live bands Outdoor concessions will be well stocked The food tent will again be selling sandwiches, sodas, and brats--and all proceeds will benefit the Fire Dept’s Burn Unit Two outdoor bars, a whiskey tent, and 26 beer taps will keep those beverage lines to a minimum

The 20/30 Club will host a Donation Station selling shirts with proceeds benefiting a local children's cancer center All this, plus de Vere’s Irish Pub bustling scene, will make this an event not to miss

L Street will be closed to traffic between 15th & 16th Streets from 9am to 6am the next day

Each Yarmarka Festival takes the entire year between them to plan the next, and this proves to be more effective every year in creating public awareness and curiosity about European culture A traditional Slavic fair originated in the 19th century from a simple market place event, it evolved into elaborate Festivals with musicians, dancers and artists performing in the town square surrounded by local merchants We hope to bring back some of this festive spirit with concerts and display local businesses

This is a wonderful opportunity for Russian and Ukrainian people to celebrate their culture and for Americans to enjoy learning about other traditions Communal celebrations involving carefully planned programs, outpourings of respect, rejoicing, or high revelry, established by custom or sponsored by various cultural groups or organizations Yarmarka is a very memorable event for the whole Slavic community

The all-day-event features a number of bands and solo performers on a concert stage, entertainment and games for the children, picnics, food booths, arts & crafts booths, souvenirs, and products from local merchants, sports events, and much more Native Russians who now live in the area and even out of state came together with the coordinators of the festival to create an exciting experience Afisha Radio, Russian Newspapers and TV will do remote broadcasts

Held in the heart of midtown Sacramento’s Gay and Lesbian Community, known as "Lavendar Heights", our hope this year is to draw even more people than last year’s record turnout! The core purpose of Rainbow Festival is twofold: To raise money for charities that have significant importance to the Lesbian and Gay Community and to raise public awareness of those charities; to create a celebration of our Pride that is pure fun!

THE RAINBOW FESTIVAL strives to make the community aware of the many services provided by the Sacramento Gay and Lesbian Community Center This organization provides a plethora of services to Greater Sacramento, including Youth Outreach and Support programs, Issues-oriented meetings and social functions, and Information exchange As the available government funding continues to dwindle, the needs of the Lesbian and Gay Community continue to grow We absolutely need representation in our community – this representation is the Lambda Community Center We must help this outstanding organization as it fights to meet these needs

The success of the Rainbow Festival is due largely to an atmosphere of merriment and revelry, combined with pride in ourselves and our community The event is an excellent outlet for politically-oriented groups as well as those concerned with pure fun and leisure Feedback from participants has included everything from successful voter registration and membership drives to merchandise sales to simply having a great time
