Environmental Council of Sacramento

Mission: To achieve regional and community sustainability and a healthy environment for existing and future residents.

By working proactively with our members, member organizations, local government, and community groups, ECOS will energize and bring positive change to the Sacramento region as we strive to develop thriving communities.

The Environmental Council of Sacramento (ECOS), a 501(c)4 organization, was born in response to the first Earth Day, April 22, 1970. Sacramento environmental leaders came together to create a visionary forum and an action oriented coalition for the region. Initially formed to coordinate the activities of member organizations, ECOS reformed itself in 1991 to become a hybrid organization that has both organizational and individual members.

      Your column Graham was the ONLY decent, factual and inspiring element of this otherwise completely useless bit of PR - the pull out from the SNR for this event. What a downer. I was at the first Earth Day in 1970 as an Aero and Astro grad student at Stanford and it was so much more inspiring than this one. I can't believe that nearly four decades have gone by since then. Oh well. To your credit, you did a first class job in summarizing the dilemma we face. I hope that you will be able to carry your message to a wider audience this year.
