Sharpen your writing utensils and get ready to embrace love, Georgiana and Kitty: Christmas at Pemberley has returned for another amazing holiday season at Capital Stage! After seeing this play last year, I was thrilled to hear it was returning for another year with some recognizable talent and some new faces.
For those of you that haven’t seen the play, Georgiana and Kitty: Christmas at Pemberley focuses on Georgiana Darcy, Fitzwilliam Darcy’s little sister and an accomplished pianist, and Kitty Bennet, a bright-eyed optimist and the youngest of the Bennet sisters. The girls embark on a holiday adventure spanning multiple years that includes admirers, love, secrets, and meddling family members. This show is the third and final play in the Christmas at Pemberley trilogy, but no need to fret! If you know the characters from Pride and Prejudice, you can follow along with the show without having to see the two prior plays.
Revisiting this show a year later was a treat. I, once again, was smiling from ear to ear throughout about 90 percent of the show watching Georgiana and Henry interact. From their first awkward interaction to reuniting years later, seeing the sort of admiration and care that Georgiana has for Henry made my heart balloon up with joy. Even after not seeing each other for years, the present he provides to her makes it clear that Henry’s heart and mind has never strayed from Georgiana. It was so wonderful that even with the time that has passed, my heart still swelled with love and admiration.
I was excited to see that both Megan Wicks and Fatemeh Mehraban returned as Georgiana and Kitty. Megan lit up the room with her performance of Georgiana, and Fatemeh really perfected Kitty (she had me dying of laughter in my chair multiple times). In addition to the return of all the wonderful cast, it was so great to see so many new faces. Many of these new faces were also in the Capital Stage apprentice program. Seeing them translate what they have learned in their program to a production is wonderful to see.
As the curtain falls, Georgiana and Kitty: Christmas at Pemberley reminds us that love, laughter, and a little holiday magic are the perfect recipe for joy.
